New Hyundai wheels to arrive soon

A few new models will be launched by Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors Sdn Bhd this year, and these include the new-generation Sonata sedan and Hyundai Tucson ix35 SUV (sport utility vehicle).

(Picture:The Hyundai Tucson ix35 shares petrol engines and a six-speed automatic gearbox with the new Sonata. )Both vehicles will be imported from Korea with shared Theta II MPI 2.0 and 2.4-litre petrol engines with Dual CVVT (continuous variable valve timing), as well as a new six-speed automatic gearbox.

The Tucson ix35 will be offered in 2WD (2.0-litre engine) and 4WD (2.4-litre engine) variants. According to Hyundai Motor Company, the new six-speed automatic gearbox has ATF (automatic transmission fluid) that is good for the life of the vehicle under normal usage conditions, thereby reducing maintenance costs.

Still, a Hyundai spokesperson pointed out that the new 2.4-litre Theta II GDI (gasoline/petrol direct injection) engine will not be introduced in Malaysia for the time being due to the quality of the fuel sold here. The 2.4-litre Theta II GDI powerplant is said to deliver best-in-class fuel economy as well as best-in-class four-cylinder horsepower and torque.

Meanwhile, the new Sonata is said to be several notches above rivals such as the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry while the Tucson ix35 will compete against the likes of the Honda CR-V and Chevrolet Captiva.

More details on both vehicles, particularly on recent test drive impressions in Muscat, Oman, will be released within the next few months.
